Peaceful Lake

5x7, oil on canvas panel

I think I am just naturally drawn to water when painting. It is absolutely one of my favorite subjects. This was painted from a photograph that I took (I think!) at Sanibel at the bird sanctuary. It's a lovely spot.

Doesn't this just make you smile? This is Superman, drawn by Ethan, when he was almost 5.

Union County loves its horses. This is one of quite a few horse farms.

Susan's Garden with Dappled Light

8x10, oil on canvas panel

My gardening friend and super gardener, Susan, has passed along many a plant to me. Last week when I was visiting, the light was just perfect, so I snapped a few photos for painting. This is the first, but I have several more in the works.

A Favorite Tree

8x10, oil on canvas panel

Many artists have favorite landscape features, just as we have favorite people, and this is my favorite tree. I've painted it many times from life, whenever I see it lighted in an interesting way. I just keep changing the setting!

Walking and Looking

5x7, oil on canvas panel

Lorry, a collector who has become a good friend, gave me some pictures of chickens--hens? roosters? I'm a little hazy on my bird vocabulary. It was great fun to paint, especially the beak and eyes. I may try a close up portrait next time.

On another note, but still on animals...here is a drawing of my cat, Moonshine, by my granddaughter, Emma. I love it!

Into the Woods (sold)

8x10, oil on canvas panel
A road with dappled light, leading back into the picture is one of my favorite themes in painting. I think I enjoy the mystery.
I choose this title after a play I saw several years ago. When I was teaching, I took the students on an annual museum/theatre trip to NYC. After an early bird flight from Atlanta and a day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we settled down in a cozy Broadway theatre. The first act was quite engaging, but, for me, it went down hill after that, and I fell fast asleep.

Rain

Today we are having rain, glorious rain, needed rain, wanted rain. However, I cannot take photos of my latest paintings until the rain clears. Please check back later today.

One Fine Morning

8x10, oil on canvas

My company has left, and I am back to painting and posting again. I generally -paint odd numbers rather than even, but I thought these 2 trees made an interesting composition.
