The Long Barn (sold)

4x6, oil on canvas panel
This is a "reworked" painting. I think it's a good exercise for the artist to try to figure out what's not working, and "fix" it. It doesn't always improve, but I do like what I did to this one, and it was an excellent learning experience.

Union County Fields (sold)

In the Back

6x8, oil on canvas panel
I have mentioned before that I like doing "pretty scenes", but I also like the grungier scenes. I think anything can be beautiful...just look at the light, the colors, and the composition.

The Road to Linn's House

5x7, oil on canvas panel
This is another of those paintings that I did not photograph well. The painting is much lighter, and the sky is a soft yellow.

In the Good Old Summer Time

5x7, oil on canvas panel
I have been working in the yard this week now that the weather is so beautiful. It made me want to paint a lazy summer day painting.

The Light on the Boat

6x8, oil on canvas panel
It's hard to resist such a good composition just waiting for a painter. A boat with striking light nestled between structures. I hardly changed a thing, just intensified the light and color. This is from St. Andrews, Canada, one of the most charming locations I've ever visited...it's like going back in time a little and in the very best of ways.

Beautiful Weather

6x6, oil on canvas panel
I had quite a productive weekend and painted eight small paintings. It was such fun. I'll be putting a few of those on eBay tonight.

Hedgerows

6x8, oil on canvas panel
This is one of my favorite subjects to paint because
1. The dark rows of trees present a strong design and contrast
2. I can "push" the color of the fields, adding blues, oranges, violets to the usual yellows and greens.
3. I enjoy painting distance and depth in a landscape.
Can you tell I used to be a teacher?

Open for Business

6x8, oil on canvas panel
I was attracted to those pink garage doors. I found it ironic that such a manly place as a car repair shop (think oil, junk, and old magazines) would use such a feminine color. I like it, so maybe they knew exactly what they were doing.
This will be on eBay next week. I'm thinking that Friday night is probably not the best time to list. You can always access my eBay listings by clicking on the icon on the right hand column.

Through the Open Gate

5x7, oil on canvas panel

I found this photo in my stash and loved it. But where it came form, no one knows. It looks western, perhaps Santa Fe, and I did take photos there, but this is not one of those. I was especially drawn to the vine catching the light on the entrance gate.

Outdoor Dining, Mooresville, NC

5x7, oil on canvas panel

I am experimenting with editing my photos in Picasa. It does a wonderful job, but uploading and getting it on my blog has taken an hour of work...not to mention that the photo is really small. I shall persevere and see if I can enlarge it.
