Bridge Over the Creek, Greensboro, NC

6x8, oil on canvas panel
90's
I had a lovely week with the grandchildren, although it was hot as all, in the high 90's but felt like over 100. I survived a trip to the zoo and a farm! Ethan was SO disappointed that the polar bears were not out....can you imagine how those bears must have suffered in ther NC heat!

The Small Blue Building

5x7, oil

Well, hooray for Radio Shack. I found the perfect cord there after buying 3 others that did not quite fit. Now we all know what that means--it means I will find the old one tonight or tomorrow!

The Case of the MIssing Cord

So sorry for the lack of posting. I have misplaced my cord to download photos from my camera. I scoured my house looking for it to no avail and finally broke down and bought one. Well, it did not work, so I bought another one and ...it did not work. So, I shall keep trying and hope to be up and running soon after another trip to the store tomorrow. Connie

Summer Time in the Country (sold)

5x7, oil on canvas panel
This barn has such interesting architecture. The side shed was not straight, but slanted in and then out. It seems that would limit storage space. Also, up near the peak of the roof were
slanted areas that were solid rather than just a board with a triangular space a air. It's hard to describe, but I hope the painting tells all. The door seemed permantly open, probably because it no longer fit the door frame. I love painting the "run down."

The Bright Umbrella, Monroe Road Plant Nursery

6x8, oil on canvas panel

I loved this triple decker umbrella. I painted plein air at this nursery in Charlotte about a year ago, and this painting is from a photo I took at the time. It looks a little too dark on my monitor, so I am seeing some photo editing in my future. Have a great Tuesday. Connie

The Blue Barn and a trip to my hometown

8x8, oil on canvas panel

My cousin, sister, and I visited my 91 year old Aunt Marianne this past week. Aunt Marianne was married to my Mother's twin brother and is the only one of that generation left. She is great fun and mentally sharp as a tack! Above is a photo of her house in my hometown of Columbus, Mississippi. It is most unusual in that the bricks are quite large. I have never seen bricks this large in any place and would love to know the origin.

Aunt Marianne has always loved to garden, but cannot anymore because of a balance problem. This is one of her beautiful garden rooms. She also had a few gardening chores for us visiting girls!

This is one of the beautiful old homes in Columbus. This one is next to Aunt Marianne's house. I painted it once and probably will again. It's a wonderful painting subject.

The post office resides on Main Street and is quite old although I am unsure of its age. Inside is a beautiful mural which I imagine was painted by a WPA artist. My Dad had an office on the second floor, and I would walk over when I was in the first grade, and he would take me home for lunch. Columbus is also home to the first state supported school for women in the nation. Called MSCW (Mississippi State College for Women) or the W, it is now an university and is co-ed.

The Bonsai Tree

8x8, oil on canvas panel, framed, with frame 14x14, 200.00 + 10.00 shipping
The complementary colors (red and green) used side by side make the colors more intense. If they are mixed together, they become grayed down and somewhat darker. I love it when I can find a spot to put red, as it relieves all that green in a landscape. Also, I did not use any black in this painting; the blacks were made with viridian (green) ultramarine blue, and aliziren crimson.

Garden Painting

I started a painting to post today, but did not quite get it finished. Here is another painting I did for Art in the Garden. This one sold and I forget to get a photo of the finished work. You can see the beautiful garden in the background. It was a lovely day, not too hot, not too cool...just right.

Our Mint Museum, here in Charlotte, sponsored a garden tour with plein air painters in each garden. I was selected to paint and chose two gardens, one for each day. One was sold, but I am offering 2 others, framed, painted en plein air, one from each of the gardens. Email me if you're interested.
