Garden Painting

I started a painting to post today, but did not quite get it finished. Here is another painting I did for Art in the Garden. This one sold and I forget to get a photo of the finished work. You can see the beautiful garden in the background. It was a lovely day, not too hot, not too cool...just right.

Our Mint Museum, here in Charlotte, sponsored a garden tour with plein air painters in each garden. I was selected to paint and chose two gardens, one for each day. One was sold, but I am offering 2 others, framed, painted en plein air, one from each of the gardens. Email me if you're interested.

Rainbow

5x7, oil on canvas board
I think rainbows should be understated in order not to look "cheesy", so this one is soft and sort of disappears into the sky. When I was teaching, a parent organization asked me to design a bumper sticker with a rainbow. I did a rainbow with a nice floppy bow at the top. It was a fun project. Connie

Mary Erickson's Place

5x7, oil on canvas panel
Mary Erickson, a fabulous painter, lives in little ole Marshville, NC. I took a workshop from her several years ago, and it was quite productive. This was painted from a photograph I took at that time. Mary paints birds, beaches, and landscapes. Not only is she one of the nicest of people, but her paintings are wonderful and quite sought after. Check her out at http://maryericksonart.com

Daylilies and Gazing Ball

8x8, oil on canvas panel
I've painted this garden before, but this time I simplified the shapes somewhat. I like this one better--more painterly.

In the Country

6x8, oil on canvas panel
This is painted in one of my favorite rural areas, Union County, which is southeast of Charlotte. It will probably not be rural long, as it is now the fastest growing county in NC. Many farms have been sold to developers for subdivisions.

Horse Friends (sold)

6x8, oil on canvas panel
For about 5 years now I have been volunteering at the food pantry one day a week. With our economic slowdown, our pantry has been extremely busy. We have had people who have never had to ask for help before, and they are embarrassed and humiliated, although we try our best to make them feel at ease. I'm writing this because you may have thought about donating some things to your local food pantry. Yesterday I weighted and put up 416 pounds of donated food in addition to filling orders. I did NOT have to lift weights that day!!
Some suggestions, other than food which is always appreciated, are toiletries (deodorant and shampoo), cleaning supplies, and diapers. You might contact your local pantry to see what they need. If you are planting a garden this year, I encourage you to plant a row or two for the hungry. It is so wonderful to give out fresh vegetables, and they are greatly appreciated.
